BLUEJAY BOYS WIN 6-5 IN WALK-OFF

In a game heard right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com and seen on our WJMT TV Channel on YouTube, the Merrill Bluejay boys’ baseball team defeated the Mosinee Indians 6-5 in Great Northern Conference action Monday with a walk-off single by AmericInn Player of the Game Eric Grunenwald driving in courtesy runner Ivan Lee with the game winning run.  Cam Wallin got the win in relief for the Jays, while reliever Aiden Laurilla took the loss for the Indians.

The Bluejays struck first on a two RBI single by Connor Josinger in the bottom of the first and added three more runs in the bottom of the second on a passed ball and two RBI single by Cole Rudie.  The Indians scored five in the top of the fourth to tie the score, but the Bluejays almost scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth before Indians left fielder Mitchell Michlig threw Rudie out at the plate in a play that saw both teams warned by the plate umpire when words were exchanged after the final out of the inning.

The Bluejay boys resume action today at Auburndale, while the girls’ softball team returns to conference action at Little League Park in Antigo.  That game can be heard right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com beginning with the Nicolet Bank pre-game show at 4:45 and first pitch at 5:00.
